"The Perfect Sunset", 2004-2010

This is a photographic recreation of the best sunset I've ever seen.

At the time, I was dabbling about with painting, and I didn't have my camera with me either. So I made a small 5"x5" painting of this sunset the next day, based on memory (the painting is on display alongside the photograph in gallery exhibitions, but not available on this website).

To make this photographic new Image, I reconstructed the sunset through my memory, the painting (itself also a memory, of course), images found via a Google search for 'the perfect sunset', my large-format 4x5 camera, computer manipulation of the resulting 4x5 negative, and various printing techniques.
